2025 Ford Mustang Trim Levels Compared: Find Your Favorite

Mustang EcoBoost Fastback
The EcoBoost Fastback is the first of the Ford Mustang trim levels, and it sets a solid foundation with a 315-horsepower surge sent to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. This Mustang is the most affordable to buy and drive, delivering an EPA-estimated 22/33/26 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).1
It offers standard features like 18-inch aluminum wheels, iconic sequential LED taillights, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. It also complements the fun with standard safety features like a Lane-Keeping System, a Blind Spot Information System, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.
Mustang EcoBoost Premium Fastback
Moving up through the Ford Mustang trim levels, the EcoBoost Premium Fastback offers everything seen above, including the same power and fuel efficiency. However, the interior is significantly upgraded in this model. For starters, the base trim's cloth seats are replaced by ActiveX-trimmed versions, and the front seats gain heating, cooling, and power adjustability.
A heated leather-wrapped steering wheel and nine-speaker stereo continue the upgrades. With dual-zone auto climate control, ambient lighting with MyColor, a decklid blade spoiler, and Track Apps, this higher member of the Ford Mustang trim levels is well worth the extra money.

Mustang EcoBoost Convertible
The lineup of Ford Mustang trim levels has always offered options for those who prefer an open-air thrill ride. While this entry-tier convertible trim shares a naming scheme with the base model, its features are more in line with the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, as it includes standard features like cloth and vinyl-trimmed front seats with heating and driver-seat power adjustability. It also adds an electronic-locking center console to keep valuables safe when the top is down and active noise cancellation to make up for the soft top roof's inherently lower noise-reducing abilities.
Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible
The EcoBoost Convertible is more akin to the EcoBoost Premium Fastback for features, and the EcoBoost Premium Convertible takes things further. Its standard amenities are mostly the same, aside from upgrades like ActiveX-trimmed seats, but it opens the door for more upgrade opportunities. For example, this model is one of the first Ford Mustang trim levels to offer the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ package as an option, and can also be enhanced by available connected built-in navigation

Mustang GT Fastback
The GT Fastback stands for V-8 fun and is perhaps the most iconic of all the Ford Mustang trim levels. The 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 provides it with 480 horsepower (or 486 horsepower with the optional active valve exhaust and premium fuel). It's the first of the Mustang trims to offer a stick shift. You can still get the 10-speed automatic, but having a six-speed manual with a big V-8 is something truly special.
Its features are in line with the EcoBoost Fastback, but there are several key additions. The Mustang GT Fastback gets bigger brakes, a better-optimized limited-slip rear axle, 18-inch wheels with a different finish, and a vinyl flat-bottom steering wheel, among other upgrades.
Mustang GT Premium Fastback
This excellent addition to the Ford Mustang trim levels is a similar proposition to the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, but it does have a key difference in its 19-inch wheels. Other features, like the heated and cooled front seats and nine-speaker stereo, are the same as you'd find in the EcoBoost Premium Fastback (but with V-8 power, of course). From power front seats to a heated vinyl steering wheel, this is the Mustang for those who want both top power and top comfort.
Mustang GT Premium Convertible
The Mustang GT convertible lineup skips the base tier and heads straight for the premium upgrade. It will have all the same features as the GT Premium Fastback but with an electronic-locking center console and the ability to add the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ package. Active noise cancellation is not included, as those who choose a drop-top V-8 muscle car rarely, if ever, want that iconic eight-cylinder sound to be dampened.

Mustang Dark Horse
The Dark Horse is a newer addition to the lineup of Ford Mustang trim levels that can be thought of as a Mustang GT Premium Fastback with comprehensive racetrack enhancements. This model is the most powerful new Mustang, making 500 horsepower right out of the box. Its features are in line with the GT Premium Fastback, and its cabin comes with heated seating that is made of black cloth with blue accents.
Upgrades include a unique powertrain tune, strut tower and chassis bracing, front and rear Brembo® brakes, dedicated coolers for the engine oil, transmission, and rear differential, plus even more, such as a hand-operated Drift Brake (use it responsibly). Unique fascias, hood graphics, and grilles make it instantly recognizable. This trim's 12-speaker B&O® Sound System by Bang & Olufsen® is great, but its standard active valve performance exhaust is widely considered to be the best sound system.
Mustang Dark Horse Premium
The Mustang Dark Horse sits high in the lineup of Ford Mustang trim levels, boasting the Dark Horse Deluxe Equipment Group. On the track, its aluminum foot pedals add a bit more style, and the memory driver seats provide a personalized touch for ultimate comfort.
It also includes the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ package, a universal garage door opener, and an electronic-locking center console as standard. This model is the highest that our new Ford Mustang inventory can go.

Discontinued Ford Mustang Trim Levels
Most Ford Mustang trim levels remain from the pre-redesign model (which lasted until 2023), but a few have been replaced.
Namely, you won't find the Mustang Mach 1 and Mustang Mach 1 Premium, which were retro callbacks with more power and thorough handling enhancements, when you search through all new Ford vehicles in our inventory. Their spirit can now be found in the Dark Horse and Dark Horse Premium. And while the supercharged Mustang Shelby GT500 is a sad loss, the Mustang GTD replaces it with beyond-wicked power.
But the previous-generation model's other trims, like the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, are still going strong, and our rotation of all-new Ford specials may just have a deal on one. No matter if you're looking for that model or any of the other 2025 Ford Mustang trim levels, we're here to help. Now that you know which is which, visit Wally's Ford of Seneca Falls to test-drive and find financing or leasing programs for your favorite.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the main differences between the Mustang EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium trims?
While the EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium both have the same engine, their main differences are quite stark. For example, the EcoBoost Fastback has cloth-trimmed front seats with manual adjustability; the EcoBoost Premium Fastback has ActiveX-trimmed front seats with power adjustability, heating, and cooling. The EcoBoost Premium Fastback also adds a nine-speaker sound system and pony projection lamps.
Are there any differences in fuel economy between the different Mustang trims?
Yes. The Mustang EcoBoost Fastback, Premium Fastback, and EcoBoost Convertible will have the best fuel economy out of all the Ford Mustang trim levels, namely an EPA-estimated 22/33/26 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).1 The V-8 models have the best power but lower MPGs: up to an EPA-estimated 16/24/19 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).1
How do the safety features vary across the different Mustang trims?
The safety features are generally fairly consistent across the different Ford Mustang trim levels, but there are some exceptions.
